6 Easy steps: Apply matte liquid lipstick flawlessly

Liquid lipsticks have been very favourable for a while now, and there is a good reason for that. If you are like me and you need your dose of caffeine every day (if not several times a day), you know how painful it is to touch up the colour of your lips.

Despite using lip liner, smudges, using facial powders and almost any other technique that YouTube's beauty gurus had taught me, my cup of coffee still ended with more lipstick than my lips, I sigh.

Matte liquid lipsticks and I'm in seventh heaven. I absolutely love loving to LOVE them They are durable, matte and, if you have a good one, they will last more than 24 hours.

After a good dozen attempts and realizing that they are a completely different ball game, here is a list of steps that will take your lip colour game to a whole new level and guarantee you SLAY.

We have your FAM.

1. Hydrate your lips and EXFOLIATE BABIES

This is so important. If you do not hydrate, you will have dry and chapped lips, and the liquid lipstick will only amplify it. Therefore, be sure to hydrate a few minutes before applying. This also prevents liquid lipstick from becoming flaky.

PROFESSIONAL ADVICE: exfoliates to remove all dead skin from your lips before moisturizing it. An easy way is a DIY lip scrub with brown sugar, honey and coconut or olive oil.

2. Highlight your cupid’s bow

These highlights and defines the shape of the upper lips and improves Cupid's arch, giving your lips a more defined and complete appearance.

3. Line your lips

Align your lips and complete them. This will help a lot when you apply the liquid lipstick because the shape is already defined. You can also play and over-align them to get a spicier look or keep it subtle and align them in the shape of your lips. I prefer the subtle aspect, and I cannot emphasize enough about the difference this step makes. You don't want to dirty your lips and remove the colour + repeat the whole process.

Practice makes perfect, and after a few times, you’ll be able to finish this step up in no time.

4. Finally, small strokes to apply liquid lipstick.

Be sure to use shorter strokes and go from filling the top and bottom of your lips to the ends. If you are covering too much to make your lips look bigger, be sure to do so with an emphasis on the centre of the upper and lower lips, and not at the corners of the lips. That way they look much more natural.

5. CONCEAL

If you're wrong, concealer is your best friend

You don't have to be an amateur to spoil your lipstick. Countless beauty gurus have admitted that this is their next step. There is always a slight rise or fall when it comes to applying liquid lipstick and there is no shame in that. The beauty of makeup is that there is almost nothing you can't fix, especially with a good concealer.

6. A hint of highlight in the centre

There's not much to highlight. I repeat. NO highlighter I too highlighter. Apply a little on the centre of your lips and see how they dazzle.

Do not be afraid to mix and match colours and try different colour combinations. Despite its longevity in terms of time, liquid lipsticks are essentially lipsticks and you can combine colours with different blends until you are satisfied with the result.

These are 6 steps if you really want a perfect and complete look. It may seem daunting if it is your first attempt, but practice makes perfect. I know people who take 5 minutes in total for all these steps.
